About 7 weeks ago I took my kids to get their shots. Elaina needed her 2 year old shot that the dr office was out of when she went for her check up. So I decided that (for some crazy reason, maybe pregnancy insanity) that it would be a good idea to get hers at Josiah's 4 year check up. This was a
Stupidly bad idea number 2. I let Josiah decide that Elaina went first. He had was already kind of upset, so when the nurse asked who was first and he said Sissy, I agreed. WELL he started screaming just before they stuck her. I am talking freak up high pitch terrified screaming. Inconsolable screaming.
Well this made Elaina start screaming too. Oh and her shot was over and she started screaming. She was sitting in my lap and latched onto me like there was no tomorrow. I could not stand up, I could not pry her off, I couldn't do anything.
So it is time for Josiah's and Elaina still has a death grip on me. By this point, Josiah is in the corner screaming. There is absolutely nothing I can do to calm him down; he is on the floor in the corner screaming. Oh and Elaina still has a death grip on me and is crying.
By this point I am starting to panic. The nurse is waiting to give him his shots, and I am trying to talk him into getting his shots. He has moved out of the corner and has a white knuckle grip on my chair. He is still totally distraught and I realize that there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING I can do. Elaina still will not let go of me, I can't talk Josiah into calming down, and I have started crying because I can't calm him down so he can get his shots.
Finally they bring another nurse and the doctor back in and they hold him down to get the shots. He has about made himself sick from screaming/crying so much. I think that he had 3 shots, after which he says, "oh that wasn't terrible at all." Really? You scream like that and say it wasn't terrible?
Finally the ordeal is over and I know we looked like a hot mess as we left. Elaina still hasn't let go of me, Josiah is looking all pitiful, and I am a nervous wreck and can't stop the tears.
Oh yeah did I mention that I was 37 weeks pregnant and this was all 4 days before Emmett was born. Yes I left in tears, not because of shots, but because of how my kids acted getting them and that there was nothing I could do to to calm them down.
NEVER again. Lesson learned. I will never do that again. I am even thinking about 3 separate trips for flu shots.
