Emmett's 6 month post

Emmett's Six Month Stats

  • 21.4 lbs
  • 28.5 inches long
  • wears a size 3 diaper and 9 month clothes although I think the 12 month clothes fit you better.  The 9 month onesies look like they are giving you a wedgie.  The 12 months are looser and look more comfy.
  • Going to physical therapy once a week for your torticolis.  It appears to be really helping.  Both times you have went to the once a week therapy (we were doing at home exercise program) you have done new things.
    • you had been rolling back to stomach but stopped once you figured out what you were doing.  You finally figured out that if you rolled over you would be on your stomach and you HATE that.
    • After your therapy visit on November 6 you rolled from your stomach to your back for the first time.  You have really mastered rolling from your stomach to your back pretty quickly.  You figured out that if we put you on your stomach you can just flip over and get on your back.
    •  After visit last week (November 13) you started combining you rolls together.  You rolled half way across the living room.
    • Both times I had told the therapist that you couldn't do it and we come home and you do it.
    • Your core strength is starting to get better, but I still notice your head tilt a lot.  I think that the stronger you are getting at holding yourself up the more we are noticing that you hold your head tilted to the right.
  • Love cups.  You get so excited over any cup that you  can get your hands on, but you really like the plastic tumbler with the lids and straws.
  • Loves,Loves,Loves the jumperoo. Sometimes you will bounce yourself to sleep.
  • Fights sleep like a champ, probally better than your brother or sister ever did.
  • Eating rice cereal, tried oatmeal cereal, but it messed up your tummy.
  • Loves any attention you get from Josiah and Elaina. You have managed somehow to stay alive for the past 6 months despite your sisters repeated attempts to lay on you, or pick you up.
  • NO teeth yet, you gnaw on EVERYTHING you can get into your mouth, we feel a few bumps in your mouth, no teeth though.
  • Finally getting some hair, so maybe your dad will stop calling you fuzzhead. Or Fuzzhair boo-Boo Bear!
  • You are a little chatter box, we cant understand a word you say though.
  • Always sticking your tongue out.  You will laugh, smile, and chatter all with you tongue sticking out.

Halloween

Several years ago my mom told me that instead of getting the kids a lot of candy for Halloween that she would get them the costume that they wanted.  I thought that was a great idea, because they didn't need any more candy that they would already be getting.  So I agreed and it has worked out great.

This year Josiah knew exactly what he wanted.  He was going to be Iron Man.  He found one at Sam's that had an actual light in the chest and he thought it was the coolest thing ever.

Elaina a little more difficult.  She kept saying that she was going to be Minnie Mouse because that was what she was last year.  Every time I asked her what she wanted for her costume she would say that she had a Minnie Mouse one.  Finally we convinced her that she could get a new one that would fit her better, and she decided to be a princess.  They had several princess ones at Sam's so we were able to get hers there too.  I just knew that she would want Cinderella, but thankfully I was wrong.  They didn't have one in her size, and I was afraid she would be mad.  She looked over the rank and then pulled one out and said this one.  She was holding a little mermaid one, so I found one in her size.  She was so excited to be a mermaid princess as she called it.

I had told my mom that Emmett would just wear the penguin costume that Elaina had worn her first year (Josiah was Buzz Lightyear and she was Weezey), but we found a little football player one that was perfect for him so I had to get it.

They kids got a lot of use out of there costumes this year.  1st we went to a friends birthday party that was about a week before Halloween and had a dress up hayride.

Then we had a Halloween party at preschool and all the kids wore there costumes.  They were all so cute.

Then we went to little sprouts at the Botanical Gardens and they had a costume parade.  Elaina insisted on wearing her Minnie Mouse one and I said ok.  It was pouring rain and her mermaid one was a little too long so I thought the Minnie Mouse one was a great idea.
Not only did we see Captain America, we also had Hulk there too.

Next we went to the dentist in costumes. Yes they had dentist appointments on Halloween. More on this in a later post.

Then we went Trick or Treating.  We went to several house in our neighborhood, to a nursing home, and then to a couple of the coaches that Trey works with.  The kids had a blast and got a lot of use out of their costumes.

Josiah's invention

Josiah came in from playing in the yard saying that he needed a big clipper thing and some help.  I was not sure what he wanted or why.  He soon showed me a pants hanger and asked if he could have it.  I was still unsure what was going on so I followed him to the back yard to see what he needed.

He wanted to attach the big toy bucket to his jeep and pull it around the yard.  While I was excited about his creativity and that he had figured out what he needed to attempt his idea, I was not so sure that the invention itself was a good idea.  I could just see Elaina in the bucket getting drug all over the yard (or him in the bucket telling her to drive, which would probably be worst).

I helped him attach the bucket with the supplies that he had gathered.  Of course it didn't stay attached very long (but that was kind of the point).  After reattaching it a few times, he looked at it and said " I know; we need a rope."

While I was proud that he came up with the rope idea, I was also afraid to find him a rope.  I told him that he would have to ask daddy about a rope.  He has since forgot about it, so I don't have to fear one of my children getting drug around the yard in the bucket.

Elaina's Style

You have to love the style of a 2 year old.
We have fought over wearing the purple jacket all summer long.  She is super excited that she can wear it now.
She loves her brother's snow boots that are to little for him
